NTID, one of the nine colleges of RIT, is the world’s largest technological college serving deaf and hard of hearing students. Created by Congress and funded by the U.S. Department of Education, it represents the world’s first effort to educate large numbers of deaf students within a college campus planned primarily for hearing students. Together with 15,000 full and part-time students, over 1,300 college-age deaf students from all 50 states and abroad study and reside on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Department of Cultural and Creative Studies offers courses and programs to undergraduates in the broad areas of Deaf cultural studies and performing arts, as well as general education. The department serves deaf students enrolled in associate degree programs at NTID, and both hearing and deaf students enrolled in baccalaureate degree programs through agreements with the College of Liberal Arts at RIT. Part-time lecturer positionWe are seeking an individual who has the ability and interest in contributing to a community committed to student centeredness, service and professional development; integrity and ethics; respect, diversity and pluralism; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration. Teach two dance courses per semester and participate in dance and theater production activities. The successful candidate must have a strong knowledge of Dance and skills needed to engage in outreach activities. Background in theater is desirable.
Required Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:Required Minimum Education Level
Bachelor’s degree in Dance and demonstrated teaching experience.
Must enjoy working with undergraduates in a collaborative environment.
Willingness to learn American Sign Language and become familiar with Deaf culture.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
MFA degree in Dance and demonstrated teaching experience. Proficiency in American Sign Language and strong knowledge of Deaf culture.
